Privacy Policy
We collect as little personal information as possible and use it only to run the Network.
Who we are
The Global Youth Climate Action Network (GYCAN) is coordinated by its Secretariat, hosted by the UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Development, Green Skills and Climate Actions and the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT). Questions about this policy go to prof.mohammad.unescochair@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Membership applications. The “Express your interest” form does not store anything on this website. It opens an email in your own email app, addressed to the Secretariat. We receive only what you choose to send: your name, email, institution, country, applicant type, your message and any attachments.
- Emails and enquiries you send to the Secretariat.
- Technical data. Like any website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time) for security and to keep the site running.
How we use it
- To assess applications for membership and partnership and to onboard members.
- To reply to enquiries and send Network communications you have asked for, such as webinar invitations.
- To publish the list of member institutions, which is issued under the Co-Chairs’ signatures. We publish institution names, not personal contact details.
Sharing
Application details may be shared with the Founding Governing Board and the relevant regional hub for review. We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep application records for the duration of membership and up to two years after an application is declined or a membership ends, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or object to its use, by emailing the Secretariat. We will respond within 30 days.
Cookie Policy
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
- No analytics or advertising cookies are set by gycan.co.
- Web fonts. Our typeface is loaded from Google Fonts. When the font loads, your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address. Google states that Google Fonts does not set cookies.
- Videos and images are hosted on our own server, so no video platform cookies are set.
If we add analytics or embedded media in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where required.
Terms of Use
By using gycan.co you agree to these terms.
Content
The text, photography, video and design of this website belong to GYCAN or are used with permission. You may share and quote our content for non-commercial, educational and advocacy purposes, with credit to “Global Youth Climate Action Network (GYCAN)”.
Partner logos and names
Partner logos are shown to acknowledge founding partners and supporters. They remain the property of each organisation and may not be reused without that organisation’s permission. See Logo & Brand Use.
Accuracy
We work to keep information accurate. Climate figures are cited to their sources (WMO, UNEP, IPCC, UNFCCC). Plans, targets and timelines describe the Network’s intentions and may change following decisions of the Founding Governing Board.
Links
Links to other websites are provided for information. We are not responsible for their content or policies.
Public statements
Only statements cleared by the Founding Governing Board represent the official position of GYCAN. Views expressed by individual members, speakers or GreenBook users are their own.
Safeguarding & Youth Protection
GYCAN works with young people aged 18–35. Everyone who takes part has the right to be safe, respected and free from harm.
Our commitments
- Youth programmes, exchanges, events and webinars are planned with a named safeguarding contact and a clear way to raise concerns.
- Personal contact details and images of young people are shared only with their consent.
- Activities that involve anyone under 18, such as school or community outreach by member universities, follow the safeguarding rules of the host institution and national law.
- Harassment, exploitation, abuse and bullying, online or in person, are never acceptable.
Raising a concern
Report any concern to the Secretariat at prof.mohammad.unescochair@gmail.com. Concerns are handled in confidence, and nobody who raises one in good faith will face negative consequences. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
Code of Conduct
Members, partners and participants agree to these principles in all GYCAN spaces, including events, webinars and the GreenBook platform.
- Respect and inclusion. Treat everyone with dignity, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, age or background. Discrimination and hate speech are not tolerated.
- North–South solidarity. Value every member’s knowledge equally and share resources, credit and opportunities fairly.
- Integrity. Report carbon, sustainability and research data honestly, using the Network’s common frameworks. No greenwashing.
- Gender responsiveness. Support women’s and girls’ full participation and leadership in climate education (SDG 5 × SDG 13).
- Indigenous knowledge. Respect Indigenous peoples’ knowledge, consent and ownership of their cultural information.
- Responsible AI. Use artificial intelligence transparently and inclusively, and never to mislead or impersonate others.
- Conflicts of interest. Declare any interest that could affect decisions on certification, awards, rankings or funding.
Breaches may lead to removal from an event or platform and, for serious cases, suspension of membership by decision of the Founding Governing Board.
Logo & Brand Use
How the GYCAN name and logo, and the names and logos of our partners, may be used.
- Member institutions may use the official GYCAN membership designation and digital badge once membership is confirmed.
- Do not alter, recolour, stretch or combine the GYCAN logo with other marks, and do not use it in a way that suggests endorsement of a product, political party or campaign.
- Use of the GYCAN name in public statements requires clearance by the Founding Governing Board.
- Partner logos (UNESCO Chair, BCCT, Bappenas, Global Youth Philanthropy, Ministry of Industry of Ethiopia, WHO Regional Office for Africa and supporters) belong to those organisations. Ask each organisation directly before using its logo.
For brand files or permission requests, email the Secretariat.
Accessibility Statement
We want gycan.co to be usable by everyone, aiming for WCAG 2.1 level AA.
- The site works with keyboard navigation and shows a visible focus outline.
- Images have text descriptions; decorative videos are silent and hidden from screen readers.
- Background videos can be paused with one button, and they are replaced by still images for anyone who has turned on reduced motion.
- Text and controls meet colour-contrast guidelines, and the layout adapts to phones, tablets and zoomed text.
If something is hard to use, or you need information in another format such as a plain-text version of the brochure, email prof.mohammad.unescochair@gmail.com and we will help.
